Emergency Brake Protocol for Stress, Anxiety, and Overwhelm

I'm back from a few weeks of training and traveling.

I'm understanding the paring of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) and our subconscious mind more and more each day.

 The more I understand, it seems like the solutions become easier and easier.

The ANS is responsible for the two states of consciousness...

The parasympathetic... the relaxed expansion or rest/digest/repair/reproduce

and the sympathetic... the tensed contraction or fight/flight/freeze/fawn

Our natural way of being should be experiencing the parasympathetic state as much as possible.

But, our modern culture and condition causes most of us to be stuck in the sympathetic state.

To help the body shift back into the parasympathetic, we have to make a conscious effort to switch back into the parasympathetic.

This is just like exercising or training.

We train the ANS to remain in the parasympathetic or to return to it as quickly as possible.

Often as we go about our day, different stressors will come up to move us into that fight/flight state.

Maybe traffic is stuck.

Maybe a child is sick.

Maybe our boss is being our boss.

In these situations, it is helpful to have a tool that can help us return to the parasympathetic state, quickly and easily.
